Hey Aspirants, We know English section is a bottleneck for many aspirants and because of this weakness they did not able to crack the competitive exams like BANK PO/Clerk, SBI PO/ Clerk, SSC CGL/ CHSL etc. So from today, we are providing lectures on English Grammar in Text Format. This is the Pronoun Top 10 Rules part 4.
RULE NO. #31:
When But come after negative word ( No) then we should not put another negative word after it. Because in that case But is acting as a Relative Pronoun like who…no or which … no
Ex-
- There is no person in this world but does not has a bad memory. ( Incorrect)
- There is no person in this world but has a bad memory. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #32:
We should not use any conjunction before the relative pronoun but in case of joining two relative or dependent clauses that pointing out the same person we can use the conjunction.
Ex-
- Ram is my brother and who is working in SBI. ( Incorrect)
- Ram is my brother who is working in SBI. ( Correct)
- Ram is my brother who working in SBI and who is coming today. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #33:
We should not put any antecedent before the relative pronoun What.
Ex-
- He can’t give you what you need. ( Incorrect)
- He can’t give what you need. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #34:
With the antecedent The Same we should use consequent As or That and with the antecedent Such we should use consequent As.
Ex-
- I have the same pen as you have. ( Correct)
- I have the same pen that you have. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #35:
In case of selection we should use Which as an Interrogative pronoun.
Ex-
- What of the movies do you like this year? ( Incorrect)
- Which of the movies do you like this year? (Correct)
RULE NO. #36:
When two subjects are joined by with , as well as, not less than, rather than, besides, but, along with etc. then we should use possessive pronoun according to the first subject of the sentence.
Ex-
- Rekha along with her friend Ravi is doing his work. ( Incorrect)
- Rekha along with her friend Ravi is doing her work. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #37:
When two subjects are joined by either …or , neither…nor, not only …but also etc. then we should use possessive pronoun according to nearest subject of the sentence.
Ex-
- Neither Ravi nor his friend Rekha doing his work. ( Incorrect)
- Neither Ravi nor his friend Rekha doing her work. ( Correct)
