Primary and Modal Verbs Important Rules
Hey Aspirants, We know English section is a bottleneck for many aspirants and because of this weakness they did not able to crack the competitive exams like BANK PO/Clerk, SBI PO/ Clerk, SSC CGL/ CHSL etc. This is the Verb Part 3 on Primary and Modal Verbs Important Rules.
Types of Verb:
RULE NO. #1
RULE NO. #2:
RULE NO. # 3:
Modal verbs does not affected by Number or Person of the subject. After Modal verb we always use first form of the verb.
Ex-
- They must follow the guidelines.
- You can pass this exam.
- He may come anytime.
RULE NO. #: 4
Modal verbs does not take TO after it except Ought and Used.
Ex-
- Rakesh could to pass this examination. ( Incorrect)
- Rakesh could pass this examination. ( Correct)
- Ramesh ought respect the rules. ( Incorrect)
- Ramesh ought to respect the rules. ( Correct)
RULE NO. # 5:
We can’t use two modal verbs in a sentence without any conjunction.
Ex-
- Rishi can should do this work. ( Incorrect)
- Rishi can do this work. ( Correct)
- Rishi should do this work. (Correct)
- Rishi can and should do this work. ( Correct)
RULE NO. # 6:
Both Need and Dare works as Modal and Main Verbs. But as Modal verb they generally used in negative or interrogative sentences.
Ex-
- He need not call him.
- He dare not face his parents.
RULE NO. #7:
In a sentence when do / does / did dose not come before Dare, we must not use TO after it ( Dare)
Ex-
- He dare not to face his parents. ( Incorrect)
- He dare not face his parents. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #8:
In a sentence when do / does / did comes before Dare we must use TO after it ( Dare)
Ex-
- He does not dare face his parents. ( Incorrect)
- He does not dare to face his parents. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #9:
In a sentence when do / does / did comes before Need, we must use TO after it ( Need ). But in affirmative sentences we do not follow this structure.
Ex-
- He need not to call him. ( Incorrect)
- He need not call him. ( Correct)
- He need be cautious. ( Incorrect)
- He needs to be cautious. (Correct)
- He does need to be cautious. ( Correct)
RULE NO. #10:
As a main verb Dare means a challenge and Need means necessity.
Ex-
- They need more time to think. ( Correct)
- He ate 12 Samosa for a dare . ( Correct)
- He needs/need more time to think. ( Which one is correct tell in comment section )
